Softwind Sword

Softwind Sword is an art project combining installation and moving images, creating an immersive exploration of tension and transformation. Through a diverse array of materials—birdcages, chains, rice paper, wigs, and modern industrial elements—the work crafts a space where stillness and movement intertwine, and boundaries dissolve into poetic ambiguity.

Central to the piece is the fictional sword-Softwind Sword, an emblem of dualities: power and vulnerability, tradition and transformation. Suspended in a space animated by the faint stirring of air, it exists in a state of perpetual becoming. Caged and chained, yet restless, the sword’s presence evokes a sense of withheld motion, as if caught in an eternal oscillation between the potential for flight and the weight of its anchors. Subtle gestures within the installation—pierced rice paper, scattered arrow weighed down by stone, and the dance of hair stirred by unseen air currents—evoke themes of desire and restraint.

Softwind Sword embraces contrasts, weaving traditional cultural aesthetics with modern media to explore the dynamics of restraint and liberation.

At its core, the work speaks to the universal human experience of navigating constraints while yearning for transcendence. The interplay of fluttering and stillness, softness and rigidity, hints at a quiet resilience—a ghostly presence that flows through gaps and barriers, inviting reflection on the nature of desire, identity, and the possibility of sexuality.
